In an exciting development for Malawi's agriculture, the Minister of Information, Hon. Moses Kunkuyu, together with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Benedicto Chambo, officially launched the Farm Input Loan program in Machinga and Namwera (Mangochi). This initiative, aiming at providing fertilizers to farmers in exchange for a loan, promises to revolutionize the farming sector across the country.
The CSOs have praised the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) for its fair and transparent distribution of inputs, ensuring that farmers from all corners of the nation benefit from this vital program. Mr. Baxton Nkhoma, representative of the Civil Society Organizations, expressed that this approach is a step in the right direction for agricultural growth, ensuring that resources reach the farmers directly.
During the event, Hon. Moses Kunkuyu urged farmers to take full advantage of the fertilizer provided, emphasizing that they must utilize it effectively to not only boost their yields but also repay the loan. โThis is a game changer for agriculture. Itโs more than just fertilizer; it is a stepping stone to profitability and sustainability,โ he said. The Minister also highlighted the importance of incorporating irrigation systems to further optimize farming practices and build resilience against climate challenges.
NEEF Board Member, Mrs. Barbara Banda, reaffirmed that NEEF is fully committed to ensuring this program contributes meaningfully to Malawiโs food security. "We are dedicated to making sure that the fertilizer distributed helps strengthen our food basket and boosts the livelihoods of our farmers," she stated, underscoring the programโs long-term vision of a self-sufficient and thriving agricultural sector.
This initiative marks a significant turning point in how agriculture is supported in Malawi, and itโs exciting to see the promise of growth and prosperity for farmers.
