When life knocked Said Hussein down, he found a way to rise stronger than ever. After a tragic accident left him without his right hand and his business in ruins, Hussein's resilience and a lifeline from the National Economic Empowerment Fund Limited (NEEF) sparked an incredible transformation.
Hussein, who hails from Kalonjere Village in Machinga District, joined a group of five called Thandizo in 2023 to secure a loan from NEEF. The group accessed a MK5 Million from which he received a MK1 Million share, which reignited his entrepreneurial spirit, enabling him to start an agro-business that soon expanded to cassava farming.
Hussein did not stop at just one success. After selling his produce, he used the profits to complete building his dream home in Mangochi District; an achievement he once thought impossible.
"NEEF gave me the opportunity to bring my ideas to life. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without their guidance and encouragement. My family is now thriving, and our lives have improved," Hussein shared.
In 2024, Thandizo group accessed a second loan from NEEF amounting to MK8-million which he then received a MK3 Million share. This empowered him to venture into tobacco farming and acquire the necessary inputs.
He later shared that the secret to his success leaned much on hard work, a united spirit within the Thandizo group, and unwavering support from NEEF officers.
As Thandizo group anticipates their third loan cycle, Hussein looks to the future with confidence, daring that NEEF loans can change lives, even in the face of physical challenges.
