The National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) rolled out its fertilizer disbursement initiative under the Farm Input Loan program at its Ekwendeni branch in Mzimba North, today, 6th January 2025.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Honorable Madam Catherine Gotani Hara, graced the event alongside Traditional Authority (T/A) Mtwalo.

In her remarks, Madam Speaker commended NEEF for its efforts in uplifting the livelihoods of people in Mzimba North.

โ€œA significant number of people in this area are not part of the working class. Through this Farm Input Loan program, which includes fertilizer disbursement, many will achieve economic independence thereby contributing to Malawiโ€™s economy through farming,โ€ she said.

Madam Speaker also highlighted the importance of such initiatives in improving household incomes and food security.

T/A Mtwaloโ€™s address urged beneficiaries to use the fertilizer wisely and repay the loans on time. โ€œThese loans are revolving funds, meaning they are intended to benefit everyone. Timely repayment ensures that others in the community also have access to this opportunity,โ€ he emphasized.

The fertilizer disbursement initiative is part of NEEFโ€™s broader strategy to empower smallholder farmers with affordable inputs, aiming to enhance agricultural productivity and boost rural economies.

The program has been addressed as a game-changer in promoting sustainable farming practices and fostering economic growth in Mzimba North and beyond.
