A successful National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) Limited awareness campaign on the newly introduced cotton loan product was concluded at Phalula EPA, Balaka. The campaign took place across several Extension Planning Areas (EPAs), including Mangochi and Balaka districts with the final event held at Phalula EPA. This awareness aimed at promoting the loan product specifically tailored to support cotton farmers with affordable and low-interest farming loans.

In his remarks, NEEFโ€™s Credit Analyst, Mr. Andrew Katende affirmed that this product has potential to boost agricultural production and contribute to Malawiโ€™s economic growth. โ€œCotton farming is a form of business, and with increased production supported by NEEF loans, lives of farmers in the region will change significantly,โ€ explained Katende.

Katende further emphasized that NEEF cotton loans are available to all Malawians with a minimum of 2.5 acres of land and encouraged individuals to reach out to loan officers in their respective constituencies for guidance and assistance.

The President of the Cotton Farmers Association of Malawi, Mr. Labson Zidana, commended NEEF for introducing the product, describing it as a game-changer for both small- and large-scale cotton farmers. โ€œI urge my fellow farmers to utilize this opportunity responsibly and follow advice from our Agricultural Officers so that we can reduce the risk of making losses,โ€ explained Zidana.

The Fund also appealed to all its clients to insure their crops in order to mitigate potential losses caused by unforeseen events such as drought and floods.
