Josephy Chambamkuya, a resident of Traditional Authority Chimutu in Lilongwe, is a shining example of how National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) loans can transform lives.

Chambamkuya secured a K1 million business loan from NEEF to open a grocery shop in his village. After repaying the loan on time, he used the profits to buy five acres of land and venture into irrigation farming. Today, his farm produces beans, sugarcane, and maize generating significant income.

He earned over K2.5 million from sugarcane sales alone, demonstrating the potential of farming as a lucrative business. Meanwhile, his grocery shop remains operational even after clearing the loan showcasing his commitment to business sustainability. He now aims to secure a micro-irrigation loan to acquire a solar pump and scale up his farming activities.

NEEF has been instrumental in empowering farmers like Chambamkuya. The fund has disbursed over K200 billion loans to Malawians, including K18 billion specifically for irrigation loans benefiting over 41,000 farmers.

This initiative underscores NEEF’s commitment to economic empowerment and food security. "I believe in taking opportunities when they come. If something opens a door for you, dedicate yourself fully. That's how you make the most of it," said Chambamkuya.
His advice stands as a testament to the life-changing impact of NEEF loans on individuals and communities.
