The Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Sam Kawale, MP, delivered a thought-provoking public lecture at Mzuzu University, emphasizing the importance of self-reliance and sustainable development in achieving Malawi's Vision 2063.
He encouraged students to take an active role in shaping the country's future, challenging the notion that leadership begins after graduation. Instead, he urged students to lead from where they are, highlighting the critical role of agriculture in driving economic transformation.
The Minister introduced the support available through the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) Limited, which offers loan products and services designed to empower young people in agriculture. These include the Youth Empowerment Loan, Farm Inputs Loan, and Micro-Irrigation Farm Input Loan.
Speaking during the lecture Hon. Kawale encouraged students to embrace commercial farming through NEEF's agricultural loans, emphasizing that institutions like NEEF are instrumental in achieving Malawi's agricultural goals.โBeing a beggar removes your dignity, thatโs why Vision 2063 was created to build a Malawi that stands tall through self-reliance, especially in agriculture,โ he said.
By highlighting the importance of individual initiative and providing resources for sustainable agricultural ventures, the Minister's message served as a powerful call to action for students to contribute to national development.
The public lecture was held under the theme: "The Malawi we want-forstering Self-Reliance and Sustainable Development".
