The National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) engaged the Lilongwe Women Economic Empowerment Forum today, 01st July 2025 at Riverside Hotel in Lilongwe with the aim of enhancing womenโ€™s participation in its loan programmes, particularly on the ongoing Micro-Irrigation Loan initiative.

Speaking during the meeting, NEEF Chief Executive Officer Mr. Humphrey Mdyetseni reaffirmed the institutionโ€™s commitment to supporting marginalised Malawians through inclusive financial services. โ€œWomen who are focused and visionary should not remain in poverty; they should rise, engage with NEEF, and take charge of their economic destiny through informed financial decisions,โ€ said Mdyetseni.

Mdyetseni further highlighted that despite the availability of funds, many potential beneficiaries remain excluded due to unproductive mindsets and a lack of clear financial planning. He therefore, encouraged women to approach NEEF with well-defined goals and a spirit of determination.

Stella Tchuthi, Chairperson of the Lilongwe Women Economic Empowerment Forum, stated that the meeting was instrumental in breaking down barriers to women's access to financial assistance. โ€œThis meeting was an eye-opener for many women who were unaware of their eligibility for loans. We thought the loans were for people who are well-to-do, and also belong to a specific political party,โ€ she said.

Tchuthi added that the financial literacy training will assist them to manage the loans responsibly.
To date, over 30,000 farmers cultivating a minimum of one acre each have accessed the Micro-Irrigation Farm Input Loan across Malawi since the programme launched in April.

The initiative is expected to run until December and forms part of NEEFโ€™s broader strategy to promote food security, increase household income, and build long-term agricultural resilience.
