The Jobvu Women's Group in Khungwa Village, under Traditional Authority Masumbankhunda, expressed tremendous joy this harvest season after harvesting much yield with a Farm Input loan from the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF).
A member of the group, Mrs. Loveness Gevala, said that for the first time, she now has enough food to last the entire year. Gevala had received six (6) bags of fertilizer which she used to cultivate maize and tobacco.
"As someone who lives in a rural area, I used to struggle with accessing farm inputs such as fertilizer, but everything changed when I accessed a NEEF loan. I have harvested thirteen (13) oxcarts of maize (equating to no less than 104 bags)," Gevala remarked.
In addition to thirteen oxcarts of maize, she also harvested three bales of tobacco which will soon be auctioned. Gevala plans to use the income to repay the loan. "It's true, this loan has opened a new door for me, something I never thought would be possible in my life. And with the proceeds from tobacco sales, I plan to start a grocery shop," Gevala added.
Women and other underserved groups are the heart of NEEFs mission and the Fund remains committed to empowering them and ensuring that they actively participate in national development through economic empowerment.
