Kadewere Irrigation Scheme is proving to be a game-changer for smallholder farmers. The scheme boasts 83 (18 Youths, 34 Women, and 31 Men) dedicated farmers who are collectively cultivating 128 acres of land. Through National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) Limited the group received a total of 256 bags of fertilizer and 1,280 kgs of maize seeds.

They have diversified their farming crops into nine different crops namely; maize, beans, tomatoes, sweet potatoes; various vegetables peas, pumpkins, bananas, and cabbages.

Among these hardworking farmers is Patricia Mulanje, a resilient woman from Mwambo 1 Village. Patricia is currently farming 1.5 acres of irrigated maize, a venture made possible through support from the NEEF. โ€œNEEF came at the right time. I was struggling to find farm inputs, and this support changed everything. Now Iโ€™m confident I will harvest more and provide better for my family,โ€ said Patricia.

Patricia is one of many beneficiaries turning potential into progress under Kadewere Scheme. โ€œI encourage fellow women to rise and do something. We cannot just sit and waitโ€”we must take action to support our families. Farming has given me dignity and hope,โ€ she added.

NEEF Micro-Irrigation and Farm Implements Loan is not simply another loan, it is a tool for economic empowerment, and a solid investment in Malawiโ€™s food security. This initiative is pushing the boundaries of what smallholder farmers can achieve. It is breaking the cycle of poverty, encouraging year-round farming, and giving rural communities the power to take charge of their futures
