NEEF continues to empower Malawians economically through its micro-irrigation loans, and the Kambenje Irrigation Scheme farmers in Mulanje embraced this opportunity to boost their agricultural output.

In a recent interview, Mrs. Chifundo Macheso, Lead Farmer of the Kambenje Irrigation Scheme which comprises of 73 members, highlighted ongoing challenges faced by the group.

She said that despite having access to both water and arable land, the farmers continued to struggle with securing essential agricultural inputs, including fertilizer, seeds, and pesticides. "We were struggling to find farm inputs and support on our own. But now we are deeply thankful to NEEF for coming to our rescue and providing us with this loan," said Macheso.

Mrs. Macheso also shared that the seeds have germinated successfully and the crops are looking vibrant, raising hopes for a bumper harvest.
She further added that the group plans to sell part of the harvest to repay the loans, while using the surplus income to support their families and improve their livelihoods.

NEEF is committed to empowering farmers to view irrigation farming not simply as a means of subsistence, but as a viable business opportunity which will also economically enhance food security in the country.
