A major institutional restructuring is set to take effect on April 1, 2025, following a functional review aimed at improving service efficiency and accessibility. This transformation will see the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) Ltd shift from a region to a zone management system.
Since its rebranding from the Malawi Enterprise Development Fund (MEDF) in 2020, NEEF has been operating under a provisional structure inherited from its predecessor. However, increasing demand for services, rising operational costs, and an outdated organizational framework prompted the need for a comprehensive review.

The newly established zones will be smaller and easier to manage in terms of branches. The zones will allow for more efficient management and improved staff effectiveness.

NEEF Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Humphrey Mdyetseni, emphasized the benefits of this shift, stating, “Unlike the previous regions, which covered larger areas, the newly established zones will have a more localized focus, ensuring more efficient management and service delivery. Each zone will be headed by a Zone Manager and will consist of no more than five branches to enhance outreach," explained Mdyetseni.

Ahead of the transition, NEEF has organized an orientation program from 27th March 2025 to 29th March 2025 for the management teams of the new zones to ensure smooth implementation. The orientation is taking place at Linde Hotel in Mponela, Dowa. Additionally, job placements for the new structure are ongoing to ensure the right personnel are in place for the transition.

This initiative is expected to enhance operational effectiveness and improve service accessibility for communities across Malawi.
