Senior Chief Mazengela’s area in Nathenje was abuzz with activity as the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) distributed 600 bags of fertilizer to farmers under its Farm Input Loan Program. The event, graced by the Minister of Trade, Honorable Sosten Gwengwe, and the Minister of Information and Digitalization, Honourable Moses Kunkuyu, showcased the government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity in Malawi.
Addressing the gathering, Honourable Gwengwe emphasized the significance of agriculture in Malawi’s economy and the persistent challenges farmers face in accessing farm inputs.
“Malawi depends on agriculture, but most farmers lack essential inputs, which limits their productivity. NEEF’s intervention is a game-changer, empowering farmers across the country and addressing issues of hunger. This program is vital for strengthening food security and supporting national development,” he said.
The Farm Input Loan Program provides fertilizers and other inputs on credit to smallholder farmers to improve their yields. Senior Chief Mazengela praised NEEF for prioritizing the needs of rural farmers, noting the program’s potential to transform livelihoods.
Honourable Moses Kunkuyu highlighted the importance of such partnerships in complementing government efforts to achieve economic empowerment.
“NEEF’s initiative has a great potential in solving issues of inflation, lack of forex and hunger. This distribution is a step forward in ensuring no farmer is left behind,” said Kunkuyu.
NEEF’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Humphrey Mdyetseni reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to expanding the program nationwide, enabling more farmers to access affordable farm inputs and contribute to Malawi’s food security.
