The National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, conducted a monitoring exercise in Lilongwe, Dedza and Ntcheu of irrigation schemes that benefitted from the Micro-Irrigation and Farm Inputs loans. The team was led by the Director of Finance from the Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Mkandawire who visited Chabalala, Mtamano, Mโ€™sembe, and Mtendere Irrigation Schemes from 19th -21st August 2025.

Speaking with farmers during the exercise, Mkandawire encouraged them to work as a team and advised them to adopt vegetative propagation, growing trees along the river to help conserve water and protect the soil. โ€œThe scheme needs to work together and must consider making plans on how to improve its operations in the coming years,โ€ said Mkandawire.

Chairman of Chabalala Irrigation Scheme, Mr. Lemson Chikatsoka, informed the officials that accessing a loan from NEEF has boosted the schemes activities and he pledged that the scheme will honor their commitment to repaying the loans on time. โ€œI am hopeful that the scheme will be able to repay the loan without any hinderances because our crops have been growing well and are healthy. We expect to make much profit from it," assured Chikatsoka.

NEEFโ€™s Senior Credit Analyst, Mr. Kulinji commended the farmers for their dedication and performance and assured them that the Fund will continue to provide solar pumps to enhance productivity and sustainability of operations for various schemes.
